Food Solutions Update
Our food leaders continue to learn about innovative solutions to the lack of food access in our neighborhood. If you are unfamiliar with the Food Solutions team, then you can check out the info in our July e-news.
Please join us at Alliance Apartments National Night Out event on August 6th at 16th St between Park Ave and Chicago Ave. Our food leaders will be tabling, answering questions, hearing community input, and sharing some preliminary concepts over what type of innovative food solution would work for the residents of Elliot Park Neighborhood.
Our team had a wonderful guest speaker from The Good Grocer (left) -- an innovative non-profit grocery store. We learned a lot about their unique volunteer-centric model and how it can help to keep prices low, to benefit volunteers, and to create community ownership and dignity. Check out the video on their website -- it's really cool!
Our team also visited Appetite for Change (right). Appetite for Change is a great example of a successful community driven movement. Our food leaders have learned a lot from them and hope to learn more.
If you are interested in joining the Food Solutions team, please contact [email protected]. We have three seats open and would love for some passionate and driven residents to join us. As this work moves forward and we get closer and closer towards a final proposal and implementation planning, we especially need one more middle or upper-income resident to join the team to provide a voice for that part of our community.
Thank you to Headwaters Foundation for Justice for supporting this work.
