EPNI Calendar for August
Friday, August 6th - Skate Park Ribbon Cutting: 11AM • Elliot Park - 901 S 8th Street
Come celebrate the GRAND OPENING of the first in ground custom skate park in the Minneapolis Park system. The skate park also includes a patio, pollinator friendly lawn and stormwater feature that captures runoff from the skate Park! Ribbon Cutting ceremony begins at 11am on Friday August 6th. Featuring refreshments, light instructions for kids, trick contests, and free board rentals from 3rd Lair SkatePark & SkateShop.
Wednesday, August 11th - August Listening Circle: 6PM • Outdoors at Elliot Park
Listening Circles will be centered around creating a safe space for our black, brown, and indigenous neighbors to share challenges faced by communities of color in the Elliot Park neighborhood
Thursday, August 12th - Ice Cream Social: 5-6PM • Segue Coffee - 811 11th Ave S
Join us for a cold treat and reconnect with your neighbors and neighborhood association. We'll have information on our meetings, events, and ways to get involved.
BLUH & Board of Directors Meeting:
The Building, Land Use & Housing meeting and Board of Directors meeting are both cancelled in August. We'll be back in September!

Looking to meet more neighbors and get involved in your community? Check out these options!
- Fall Fun Fest Event Planning: a group of volunteers is planning a "Fall Fun Fest" and would love some help. If you are interested in helping with event planning or at the actual event (date TBD), let us know!
- Food Solutions Team: do you wish you could find fresh, healthy, and affordable food in the neighborhood? We do, too! The Food Solutions Team is exploring the potential of a storefront market and is looking for volunteers to join them! Learn more about the role here.
- Food Delivery Program: have some spare time on Tuesday mornings? We're always looking for some extra hands to help with our food delivery program.

At the July Building, Land Use, and Housing (BLUH) meeting, Tom Hayes of Hennepin Healthcare introduced the upcoming community engagement process that will inform the organization's new vision. Keep an eye on EPNI communications for the latest updates.
Coriner Boler, community leader and resident of Madison Apartments, recognized renters, neighbors, partners, and advocates for their support and dedication to housing justice and tenant rights. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this movement!
Lutunji Abram, Elliot Park's newest retailer, also shared details about the opening of Lutunji’s Palate Bakery & Cafe in the new Gatsby building at 1400 Park. Lutunji’s Palate has already outgrown two commercial kitchens. Since 2018, she has been selling scrumptious treats like her famous Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Harriet’s Escape Peach Cobbler, and Coconut Macaroons. Food Delivery Program is Back!
EPNI has been supporting a group of residents in addressing food insecurity in our neighborhood. Last summer, the EPNI Food Solutions Team hosted four pop-up food markets in partnership with The Food Group. In order to continue access to food during the winter, the Team partnered with House of Charity to distribute weekly food bags to 150 households. We're excited to announce that EPNI and House of Charity have secured a grant from Campbell's Soup Foundation to relaunch the food delivery program and provide over 70 food bags to households in Elliot Park on a weekly basis.

Behind on Rent? Apply for Rent Help to Protect Against Eviction
Minnesota's eviction suspension off-ramp is well underway, with most protections ending on October 12, 2021. If you're behind on rent, the best way to prevent eviction is to apply for Emergency Rental Assistance at RentHelpMN.org. Call 2-1-1 if you need help applying. Tenants with pending Rent Help applications are protected from eviction until June 1, 2022.
