Garden Plots Available at Franklin Steele Square

Franklin Steele Square is now home to one of the first community gardens in Minneapolis Parks! Plots are available for community members to lease (at no cost) for the 2020 garden season. Applications are available online at www.minneapolisparks.org/communitygardens or at Elliot Recreation Center. Interested residents should apply by February 1st. Preference will be given to Minneapolis residents who don’t have access to land outside of the park, who have a connection to the space, and who plan to grow edibles. Boy Scouts from Minneapolis’ Troop 100 planted a dozen plum and cherry trees to supplement the garden plots. Once the trees have matured, fruit will be available for anyone to harvest. Questions? E-mail communitygarden@minneapolisparks.org or call 612-313-7779.

2020 Census

April 1 is census day in the United States. This vital count of the population determines funding for important things such as schools, health care and cities as well as how many representatives we get in Congress. It is critical for everyone in Minneapolis to answer the census questionnaire!

Watch a video about the 2020 Census and why it matters.

Early Voting

Early voting has begun in Minneapolis for the presidential primary. Voters in the city will be among the first in the nation to cast ballots in this high-profile race, and they can do that at the Early Vote Center, 980 E. Hennepin Ave., from now through March 2 (the day before the March 3 primary). Any voter can vote early; no reason is required. Find out more about early voting.
