5/29 Drop-in Resource Day Event - Project Report:

Neighbors enjoying music and talking to the different resource day tables
On Thursday, May 29th, EPNI led and co-hosted our first collaborative outreach event as part of the new Opioid Treatment Outreach project, in partnership with the City of Minneapolis's Public Health - Opioid Response unit, HueMan Partnership, M Health Riverside Hospital and Native American Community Clinic. At this Drop-in Resource Day event, neighbors were welcome to connect with medical providers and all project partners to learn more about a new, long-acting injectable opioid treatment medication, which may provide a more viable pathway to treatment of opioid addiction for many. This new medication, along with wraparound clinic services and support, is available to people in need of opioid treatment, at no cost through the Project.
Additionally, neighbors had the opportunity to connect with many additional neighborhood-based community organizations offering related services and resources to help people overcome barriers to addiction treatment and wellness, including healthcare and health insurance, housing, mental health services and food resources. From free blood pressure screenings to access to narcan and opioid testing strips, a hot meal and take-away groceries, to access to medical and other critical service providers to connect neighbors to treatment and services, to connection with the neighborhood, while enjoying chill tunes spun by KRSM DJ, Miic, the Drop-in Day event offered many resource connections.
These new collaborative efforts of the Opioid Treatment Outreach Project, and the importance of increased access to critical opioid treatment medication and services was recognized and supported by several elected representatives at the Drop-in Day event, including the Ward 6 Councilmember Jamal Osman, and Mayor Jacob Frey, as well as City Health Commissioner Damon Chaplin, Deputy Health Commissioner Heidi Ritchie, and Deputy City Operations Officer Brett Hjelle. Check out Councilmember Osman’s Facebook Live stream interview at the event with Project partner, Dr. Dziwe Ntaba, from M Health - Riverside Hospital, explaining more about how the new opioid treatment medication works: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16a6xjsfzs/.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our above-noted Opioid Treatment Outreach Project partners, as well as all the Drop-in Day event partners, including Agate, Catholic Charities, Hennepin County Resource Navigators, Hennepin Healthcare, Hennepin Healthcare for the Homeless, Indigenous People's Taskforce, Jericho Road, who provided the food distribution, KRSM Radio, MPRB - Elliot Park, and MN Adult & Teen Challenge. We look forward to future collaboration, in service of our neighbors needing to overcome barriers to opioid treatment.

Minneapolis will celebrate National Night Out (NNO) Tuesday, August 5, 2025! Register Today
This is a reminder that NNO registration is open! August is right around the corner, as we move into June. The goal this year is to “grow” first time registrants. If you’ve been hosting NNO every year—we Thank You! Maybe you can help recruit a first timer; we’d love to support them! See below for the NNO email contact information for referrals.
National Night Out is a time for City residents to come together, get to know their neighbors and celebrate community. Many blocks and apartment buildings in Minneapolis take this opportunity to reconnect, eat, and build relationships we each other. For those who live on a traditional block, the block can work together before the event to shut the street down. This allows the kids the option to play and bike freely in the closed street.
Registration is now open and is free! Residents are encouraged to sign up early as registration closes five business days before the event (Tuesday, July 29).
Read more about NNO on the City's website To register your block: https://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/blockeventapp/
Pre-registration checklist:
- Include neighbors or tenants in your organizing efforts.
- Register only one event per block or apartment building (appoint one neighbor to register).
- Consider if you want your street blocked off to traffic.
- Checking the box for 75% approval is fine if you plan to notify every household of the event.
- Call 311 to request a firetruck, MPD K9, and/or MPD Mounted Patrol.
- Contact [email protected] with referrals to potential first-time NNO hosts.
What to expect:
- NNO Team will host NNO Pop-Ups around the city throughout the summer; dates and locations will be sent out soon. Supplies can be received there.
- Digital copies of NNO Flyers will be sent to registrants via email and will be available (one copy per language per person, please) at NNO Pop-Ups.
- Our Team is available to table at your community events to encourage NNO event registrations! Invite us
- Confirmation of your event will be sent via email starting Monday, June 2nd (print the final page of your registration for your permit number).
- The NNO Team is working on securing give aways! Stay tuned.
Look for more info about Elliot Park's NNO event on Tues. Aug 5th
Feel free to contact me [email protected] 612-919-8887 or [email protected] if you have any questions.
