Elliot Park Neighbor Support Fund

THANK YOU, neighbors! So far, we've raised over $12,631 (including a very generous recent $5,000 anonymous donation!) to support neighbors with small individual financial help grants, and delivered over 425 bags of groceries and supplies, and served another 212 households at our five extra pop-up food distribution events, throughout the dark days of "Operation Metro Surge" and its aftermath.

We also provided many of these neighbors with caring support and other community resource connection.

While the immediate harm of the federal enforcement surge has abated, the deep and serious direct impacts on our neighbors are lasting. We recognize both that the financial impacts caused by Operation Metro Surge continue for many; and that Operation Metro Surge only worsened existing layers of financial hardships for many neighbors, including food and housing insecurities, and broader economic hardships.

Therefore, we continue to maintain, raise and distribute funds to assist our neighbors through the Elliot Park Neighbor Support Fund, with a highly aligned purpose and similar guidelines as the original Fund created in February 2026, in response to Operation Metro Surge.

Neighbors facing financial hardships affecting basic needs can apply for a grant by contacting EPNI by text/phone at 612-234-2280 or email, at [email protected].

The Elliot Park Neighbor Support Network provides direct, confidential aid to neighbors facing serious financial hardship. We connect neighbors who need help with neighbors who can give. Your donation covers food support, basic supplies and individual small grants for emergency financial support.

Any amount helps. Give what you can.

Donate! Support your Neighbors Today!

EPNI Project Reports & Updates

5/28 Stronger Together Community Forum Report

On Thursday, May 28th, neighbors came together at Elliot Park & Rec Center, to participate in the "Stronger Together: Elliot Park Post Operation Metro Surge Community Forum" with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, Ward 6 Councilmember Jamal Osman, and Legal Rights Center Executive Director, Malaika Eban; moderated by Elliot Park resident and EPNI Board President, Toya López.

We both heard from our neighbors in attendance about their experiences, impacts and needs coming out of Operation Metro Surge, and we heard updates from our panelists about their work in response. Toya also reviewed EPNI's mutual aid work in response, working to stand with our impacted neighbors and community members, through coordinating neighbor volunteers to deliver food and basic supplies to neighbors who needed to stay home to prioritize safety; and raising funds to offer individual small grants to those directly impacted, facing economic hardship as a result.

Councilmember Osman spoke from the heart about his own direct experiences as part of the targeted Somali community, staying on the front line of presence and response in support of all immigrant and otherwise impacted residents, through the Surge. Malaika Eban spoke about the Legal Rights Center's legal defense work, specific to residents whose 1st amendment rights were violated during peaceful protests and legal observing. And County Attorney Moriarty gave a helpful overview of the continued work of the County Attorney's office, to begin to hold ICE accountable for unlawful violence and rights violations.

The work continues in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge, both within and beyond Elliot Park:

  • Do you need help or resource connection; or want to help your Elliot Park neighbors, through the continued Elliot Park Support Network? Call or text EPNI: 612–234-2280 / [email protected]

    • Additionally, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty's office has continued to manage the Transparency and Accountability Project (TAP) in the wake of Operation Metro Surge. "TAP’s purpose is to collect and assess evidence submitted by the public of potentially unlawful behavior by federal agents. It is staffed by HCAO prosecutors and an HCAO civilian investigator. A new portal for community members to share photos, videos, and descriptions of any incidents that may involve unlawful conduct by federal agents has been created to support TAP:"

City and Community Updates

Here & Gone: Commemorating ICE Abductions in MN is a crowd-sourced archival project documenting the signs and artwork installed at sites of ICE abductions in Minnesota. Since Operation Metro Surge began in late 2025, Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) has detained at least 4,000 people in Minnesota.

In response, community members have commemorated these sites with art and homemade signage. These spontaneous memorials–often made of paper, pen, or paint–are vulnerable to time and weather.

Here & Gone aims to collect and map photos of these ephemeral memorials and organize them into a publicly available collection. The project seeks photo contributions of existing or past examples of how neighbors are marking sites of abductions across the state. Learn more, submit your photos, and explore the existing collection at our website: hereandgonemn.com

Minnesotans Can Feel Confident in the Safety of Our Elections!

“As I said before the right to vote is the crown jewel of American Liberties, and we will not see

its luster diminished.” These were the words of President Ronald Reagan speaking to the nation on June 29, 1982 upon his signing of the 25-year extension of the Voting Rights Act. This act first became law in 1965 and required states to follow the 14th and 15th Amendments’ guarantee that the right to vote not be denied because of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Our democracy is at its best when citizens across the United States cast their ballots during

election season. Whether the vote is for a school board member, state senator, or President of the United States, voting is our power to have our voices heard. We the people have the power to elect representatives to enact laws that match our needs and values.

State Laws Regulate Elections

Article 1, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to regulate “the times, places and manners of elections, though Congress can make or alter these regulations”… This means that the states run elections. When you cast your ballot at a polling place, the people working there are local government officials, your neighbors, friends, and family members hired to ensure a free, fair, and secure election where only registered U.S. citizens vote, and each vote is accurately counted.

While the federal government has passed laws like the Voting Rights Act to ensure greater

access to voting, it is the local government that administers the election process according to

the laws of each state. For example, some states, like Minnesota allow voter registration on

election day while other states require voters to register before election day. In Minnesota

local election officials in 87 counties administer elections following its state’s laws. Minnesota

State laws dictate how ballots are created, distributed, and safely stored. Its laws dictate how

ballot counting machines are purchased and tested before and after the elections to ensure

their accuracy. A comprehensive list of registered voters (voter rolls) is maintained by the

Minnesota’s Secretary of State office in collaboration with the counties.
