EPNI Updates

Elliot Park Community Aid FundThree Ways to Give to our Neighbors Recovering from the 8/13/24 Apartment Fire at 1501 S. 11th Ave.

September Updates: On September 5th, we held a Drop-in Resource Day for the residents and families displaced by the fire at the Elliot Park Rec Center. We gave out donations and connected families to valuable resources. These donations and services were made available thanks to our service partners: Hennepin County Resource Navigators, Mid-Minnesota Legal Services, MPRB - Elliot Park, First Covenant Church, Aeon and Trellis Housing. We have also received a $48,000 Minneapolis Foundation grant to boost our direct aid distribution to people affected by the fire, awarded to directly benefit the affected residents, in recognition of our collaborative response efforts.
Background: On August 13th, a devastating fire swept through the multi-family apartment building on 1501 11th Ave S. in our beloved Elliot Park neighborhood, claiming two lives, hospitalizing four more, and displacing 22 households. EPNI has been working with the Red Cross and several community partners to help the affected residents rebuild their lives. There are THREE WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

1) DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE ELLIOT PARK COMMUNITY AID FUND: Click HERE to donate through EPNI’s GiveMN. Donations will go directly to families to help offset security deposits & first month's rent and any direct expenses faced by the families and households -- ANY AMOUNT HELPS!

2) DONATE NEW OR GENTLY USED CLOTHING, PERSONAL/HYGIENE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS: Fire victims lost everything and need to replace everything. Click HERE for a list of what's needed, how and where to donate.

3) DONATE NEW HOUSEHOLD ITEMS THRU A TARGET REGISTRY set up for Elliot Park fire victims:
https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/elliot-park-community-aid -- It's easy to do! Pick something out, and it will automatically be delivered to Elliot Park Rec Center at checkout.

Thank you for your generous support of our neighbors! Questions? Contact EPNI at

City & Community Updates

Nicollet Mall and downtown transit changes

The City is exploring changes to transit routes downtown. This work is part of re-envisioning the future of Nicollet Mall.

The City is moving transit routes off Nicollet Mall. We developed three options for transit changes in partnership with Metro Transit. The goal of this work is to make transit as good or better than transit on Nicollet Mall today.

We'll engage the community on:

  • Design and safety solutions
    • Sidewalk width
    • Bikeway design (if applicable)
    • Turn lanes
  • Transit speed and reliability improvements
  • Impacts on transit riders
  • Traffic impacts
  • Curbside use impacts
  • Property access and driveways
